WHO WE ARE

We are a community of support, education, and passion. We are here to help move our clients in a direction of positive change; change in mind, body, and spirit. Our community at is diverse; it includes members of our military, full-time moms, doctors, lawyers, police officers, fire fighters, business executives, elite athletes, and retired grandparents. Regardless of how you earn an income or your current fitness level, you will benefit from the coaching at Pure Athletics.

WHAT WE DO

 
 

So what does that really mean? It means that at Pure Athletics you will not find rows of stationary bikes and weight machines. Instead you will find pull-up bars, kettlebells, barbells and wide open space for squatting, running, jumping, climbing, lifting and throwing and moving your body the way it is meant to be moved. It means that all your workouts will be comprised of exercises that mimic movements performed in day-to-day life or sport. You would never bicep curl your child to pick them up, so why would you do it in the gym? We focus on improving functional movements that are necessary and common in your daily activities.

With our constantly varied programming you will rarely do the same workout twice in any given year. You will never have to program your own workouts or spend hours in the gym. Instead, each day a workout will be provided for you that is scalable to suit your fitness level. And because our workouts are rarely longer than 40 minutes they can fit into even the busiest schedules. Our fitness programming aims to improve your capacity in ten recognized fitness domains cardio-respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. The result is comprehensive physical fitness and restored vitality.

Josh Kapacila / Co-owner / head coach

I was born and raised in Prince Albert. Prince Albert is my home, I love it. I grew up playing many sports and loved to compete. I found weightlifting and Crossfit when I was 16 years old and have since competed in many high level competitions. I have been coaching for over 6+ years now. I love health and Fitness, I am constantly learning and getting education to better my coaching and what I can offer.

My passion in life is to help people become healthier and help them reach their goals. I have worked with all types of people from all kinds of disabilities to professional athletes. I have a high knowledge and understanding of health, fitness, and coaching. My goal is to build the best health and fitness facility that Prince Albert has to offer, catering to everyone’s needs no matter your abilities. Beginners to high level athletes. Pure Athletics has something for everyone.

 
 
 

Whitney Darchuk / Co-owner / manager

Whitney was born and raised in Prince Albert. She has a long history in health care, sport, and coaching. Her love for fitness started at a young age. She competed on several sporting teams at the Saskatchewan provincial level: downhill ski team, volleyball team, and track team, while finishing on the podium multiple times.

Currently, she competes at an elite level in Crossfit. She has qualified for regionals the past three years placing 10th in 2013, 6th in 2014 and 8th in 2015. She also competes in weight lifting and has qualified for CrossFit Nationals and Westerns for the past two years. Whitney attended post secondary school in Saskatoon. She is a Registered Massage Therapist with the Association of Saskatchewan and has a diploma in Sport Therapy and Exercise. She is constantly continuing her education to learn and grow as a person, and at the same time, to help others grow into strong, healthy, and confident individuals.

James Kapacila / Coach

This guy is a ball of energy with one of the most fun personalities out there. I was born and raised in Prince Albert, saskatchewan. Growing up, I played soccer and just about every school sport. In 2010, I started doing p90x (shout out to Tony Horton) at home to try and keep up to my bigger brothers. Later, that year a few of my friends introduced me to CrossFit and I was hooked instantly. Seven years later and this sport has allowed me to travel to many different competitions and meet lots of great people along the way. CrossFit is my passion, and I cant wait to coach and share that with you all.

Fun Fact: James competed at the 2015 CrossFit Games in the 16-17 Year old Teenager division and finished 5th in the world!

Oops … this is start of my grocery list, not a little blurb about me!

Sorry…Anyway you have probably gathered from that opening that I’m a goof and always here for a good time…Always! My life has always had sports in it since I can remember, whether it be training, practicing, or doing. Being active is something I take seriously. When I was looking for a functional, fun, and challenging way to work out, I found CrossFit. Coaching CrossFit for the last 6 years has been a passion of mine, and I love being involved in that awesome hour of energy and commitment to self improvement that goes on during class. I like to bring my own energy into environments. I’m very happy and blessed to be a part of this positive group of people, and I can’t wait to meet you all!!

Janet Berezowski / Coach

I am from Meath Park, which is a small farming community just outside of Prince Albert. After graduation, I entered the world of broadcasting and worked at some of best radio stations in Western Canada. The travel bug hit me, and I then ventured to Australia, New Zealand, and spent 7 years in England. I made my way home, back to the farm, in 1998 and that’s where my roots are. 

After turning 40, I ventured into the world of running, biking, and conquering my fear of water. This ultimately turned into a love for Triathlon, and now one Ironman under my belt, so far.

My weekly calendar includes continued swimming lessons with the Tri Masters Swim club, CrossFit workouts, and a full time job in Corrections.

As I approach the second half of my life, I will continue to coach and grow with the world of CrossFit…it really is for everyone!


Dustin Billay/ Coach

I have been doing CrossFit for over 3 years and have been loving every minute of it. I like how CrossFit transfers over to everyday life and the community that comes with it.

When not attending to my garden (I may be turning into a baba), I pretty much enjoy anything to do with the outdoors from hunting, fishing, biking, canoeing to exploring the back country, and anything to challenge myself, which makes a great fit for CrossFit. I’ve always looked up to all the staff at Pure and am super excited to join the team and teach people in the community what I love so much. I look forward to working with all of you and getting to know each of you individually.
